Maine Community Home Alliance

Built as a Maine benefit corporation

MCHA is organized as a Maine benefit corporation. That means it is legally committed to creating a public benefit for Maine households, not just profit for its owners. MCIA exists to serve MCHA’s members with the same purpose: lower costs, fewer losses and honest advice.

Andrew McRichards

I grew up in New Hampshire, but some of my best childhood memories are from summers at the Lighthouse Motel in Lincolnville, which my family ran (today it’s the Lincolnville Motel). Maine is where I chose to make my home and build my businesses.

Before starting Maine Community Insurance, I founded a large central Maine property management company in 2017 and grew it to hundreds of homes, using my procurement background to drive down repair and utility costs for real estate investors. I’m no longer involved in managing rental properties, but I still enjoy finding ways to help people save money. I’ve dealt with frozen pipes, roof damage and insurance claims firsthand, so I know what good coverage looks like when something actually goes wrong. Earlier in my career, I worked on international contracts and procurement strategy for Philips Healthcare, part of Royal Philips, one of the world’s largest health technology companies. Now I put that same work into getting fair prices for Maine households.

My promise is simple: I’ll compare options from multiple carriers, explain them in plain English, and tell you when you don’t need something. You’ll never be pressured, and insurance is never required to be an MCHA member.

One rule runs through all three of my companies: clear pricing, transparent incentives. If you ask what something costs or how we get paid, you’ll get a straight answer.

Fun fact: before law school I lived in Nashville, where I worked alongside Scott Swift (yes, Taylor’s dad) in the Private Client Group at Merrill Lynch.

We compete on price and on everything that comes with the policy.

Insurance companies file their rates with the state, so the same policy from the same company won’t cost you less anywhere else. With MCIA, that same price comes with MCIA Prevent, a $50 heating-fuel gift card each year, and an agent who returns every phone call and email within 24 hours (usually less).

How does MCIA get paid?

Like most independent agencies, MCIA is paid a commission by the insurance company that issues your policy. Commission rates vary by company and product. Ask us and we’ll tell you what we earn on your policy.

Why is MCIA only for MCHA members?

We built MCIA to serve the homeowners in our membership well, rather than to serve everyone thinly. Knowing your home, your heating system and your service history helps us advise you better.

Will my information be shared between companies?

Only when it’s needed for something you asked for, like confirming your MCHA membership or scheduling an MCIA Prevent visit. MCIA never shares your policy details, claims history or credit information with MCHA or Granite Coast without your permission, and none of our companies sell your information. See our Privacy Policy.

Are the companies related?

Yes. MCIA, Maine Community Home Alliance and Granite Coast Home Services are affiliated through common ownership. Each is a separate business, and MCHA membership and Granite Coast services are never contingent on buying insurance.

Licensing
